To prevent diabetes is probably the best thing that you can do if you don’t have it yet. DO NOT commit the same mistake that I did. I know that my parents are both diabetic. But I never had any effort in preventing it. Yes, it runs within our genes. But there is a way to lower the risk percentage of getting diabetes. So this short post is for you.

If you are not controlling your food intake, this is definitely for you. If you have a sedentary lifestyle this is for you. If you drink a lot of soft drinks and other instant juices, this is definitely for you. Our goal is always to reduce the risk of getting diabetes. It’s difficult to stop it. However, it doesn’t have to come at the age of 20’s nor 30’s not even 40’s. The main problem for those people who have a high risk like me is that, we already live by it. We don’t do any effort in preventing it when we can actually.

So here is a brief summary:

  1. Reduce portion sizes of your food. You don’t have to eat everything in short. Balanced diet if I will summarize it in 2 words.
  2. Move more. Make it a goal that you will walk at least 3 kilometers a day. If you move all day long, 3 kilometers is actually a short walk. If you can do 6 or 8, the better.
  3. Choose better food. Know what you eat. Be health conscious when it comes to food. If you have choices on the table, choose the healthier ones.
  4. Improve discipline. This is where most people get defeated, discipline. Many people get diabetes because of the lack of discipline. So make sure you develop this most important factor. It will save your life many times over more than you can ever think of.
  5. Track. Monitor what you eat, what you drink, how much steps you made. These are the basics. Create some goals. Tracking can motivate you more to reach those goals.
