The parties are over, now let’s face this new year with some resolutions that works with our diabetic situation. Here are 3 things to change in your eating habit this year.
Reduce and better yet quit consuming tablespoon sugar – I always say this both in my ebook and in this blog. I am an advocate of consuming less tablespoon sugar, better yet quit it. Sugar is like any other drug that is so addictive. This is why those who like cakes, soda, cookies and other sweets love more sweets and quitting seems just so impossible.
My main motivation in quitting tablespoon sugar is my creatinine level. When I found out that my kidneys is quite affected by my high sugar levels, I decided that I don’t want to hurt it anymore, I don’t want to end up in dialysis center twice or thrice a week. I have seen the horrors of it and I don’t want to fall and become another victim of kidney malfunction. And the best time to start working on it is now.

I started substituting my sugar with some alternatives. Stevia and Splenda can be a good alternative to sugar. I don’t use Aspartagme as it was reported to have significant side effects. However, if there is no choice at an instant, aspartagme can still do some good. Just avoid it as much as you can especially that healthier alternatives are available in the market.
I started quitting with soda and then cakes, chocolates and other sweets. Then cut off the carbohydrates as it will also become sugar in your body. Carbohydrates are still needed in the body alright, but eating too much of it only produces obesity and increase of blood sugar level.

Avoid instant juices – Do you think that drinking juice than coffee is better? Not at all. If your juice is an instant juice, there is nothing healthy in it because they are simply sugar. And as I said, quitting sugar is quite hard. But to quit it, you need to learn what food and drinks have more sugar in it.
Instant juice is what we also served to our kids in most cases because we believe that softdrinks and soda is not healthy. For all we know however, instant juice can equally be dangerous and can also cause diabetes and urinary tract infection.
I suggest you drink natural and fresh juices instead of instant. However, control for these juice intakes must also be regulated since it also has sugar in it. Fresh and natural juices will always be far better than instant juices.
Make a food journal – I guess this will be the hardest part because most of us don’t like writing. However, your own personal notes on the food that you eat can be a great help for your own program. Not only that, it can also be a great help to others when you yourself was able to formulate a good program. So I encourage you to work on your food journal.
Having a simple eating plan for the week is very helpful in monitoring your sugar level intake. I know we are not experts who always look at the number of calories, however with those notes, we can be reminded what food are high in calories and which ones are not thus helping us maintain a balanced diet.
